Summary
Ellie didn’t expect to fall in love while travelling in Europe. But she also didn’t expect to meet a man like Ash.
Three blistering days in Lisbon is all it takes to form an unforgettable connection – deep enough for them to plan to meet again in Madrid. But Ellie arrives late, and Ash is nowhere to be found.
Six years later, the memory of Ash and their time together still burns deeply in Ellie’s heart. She hopes that her dream job as a landscape gardener on a grand estate in Wales will bring the fresh start she desperately needs.
But when Ash unexpectedly crashes back into her life in the remote Welsh village, Ellie is forced to question if the universe has other plans…
Review
When Ellie and Ash meet in a whirlwind romance, their attraction is immediate and intense. All it takes is three hot summer days for the two to forge a connection that stays with them long after they’re separated. But can they handle the heat, or are these two hearts destined to break?
Paige Toon has once again given us a wonderful romance to enjoy. From the first meeting, I felt the strength of Ellie and Ash’s connection. Their budding romance is sweet and seems like it could stand the test of time. However, when their planned meeting in Madrid is thwarted by unfortunate circumstances, things take a sudden turn for the worse. I felt gutted for Ellie when she was wandering the streets of Madrid alone for days as she waited for Ash to arrive. Also, I understand that she was young and completely infatuated with her summer romance, but it felt like she was going to extreme lengths to meet up with a man she barely knew. To be left broken by his no-show seemed strange after such a short time.
Both characters felt scarred by their upbringings for similar reasons. Disinterested parents who were more interested in improving their social status than spending time with their children. It seemed like poor communication was a running theme in this book, which was frustrating. Ellie let Ash get away with far more poor behaviour than she should have. Plus, spending six years losing her mind over a guy she’d only known for three days was off-putting. I truly felt that beneath it all, Ellie was a stronger character than that situation portrayed, so I wish that she’d been given the time to show her strength. I believe that could have been done if they’d spent longer together interrailing and then lost contact.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy read, and the descriptions of the locations were wonderful. I could’ve booked a trip to Wales as soon as I finished this! Paige Toon is a wonderful writer, and her story-telling is almost lyrical. I look forward to reading more of her books and recommend them to any fellow fan of romance!
