Who is 'Passenger' and how did he change my perspective on folk music?

Passenger @ Facebook

Well hello,
In recent news, the musician, Passenger, announced that he will be taking a well-deserved break from touring for a while. If you’re not aware of passenger then what the heck is wrong with you? Na, I’m obviously joking. Please don’t be offended! But anyway Passenger is an indie/rock-folk singer/songwriter, also known as Mike Rosenberg, and has been busking and touring for 8 years now. His claim to fame came with his debut single, ‘Let Her Go’, which I really hope you’ve heard. If not, I’ve linked the YouTube video to the song title so go listen to it!
Honestly, this man is incredible. He is filled with the utmost passion and love for what he does and that is felt via his stage presence. I went to see Passenger in 2014 at his Newcastle show and it was phenomenal. I had goosebumps throughout every song but especially during ‘Riding To New York‘. He told the most beautiful and harrowing story about a man he met in Minneapolis who was going to pass away from cancer and wanted to be reunited with his family before he died. This man was doing a cross-country road trip all the way back to his family in New York (possibly more to the story than that but those are the basics). And the sheer emotion he portrayed with this song brought me to tears. The entire show was fantastic but his performance of that one song has stuck with me ever since that concert. That concert will always be one of my all time favourites – if not my favourite!
I would like to thank Passenger for introducing me to folk music. I never paid much attention to it until I found him and I’m so glad that I pay attention to it now. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it! Sincerely, I have so much respect and admiration for this man and all he’s done and achieved these last 8 years. You’re underrated in my opinion and deserve more praise than you receive.
You should all check out his new album – The Boy who cried wolf – available in most stores and on Spotify. It’s amazing.

Until next time
